WCPE Episode 097 – For May 4, 2016 – Micronauts #1, Lebanon MEGA Con, PCC Panels, and #Whitewashing

It never ceases to amaze us just how much stuff we can pack into each and every podcast. This week, we give you a comic review, convention talk, panel announcements, news commentary, and more. Other podcasts would charge you an arm and a leg for content like this. But not the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! Nope, we are still completely FREE! All we ask in return is that you give our show a listen and share it with your friends – or enemies, depending on how you think we are doing this week.

We start out with a brief recap of Jerry’s trip to the Lebanon MEGA Con last weekend. We posted a Midwest Geek Summit crossover podcast earlier this week with the Fanatics and the Fan podcast and The Horrible Movie Podcast. Jerry posted some pictures to our Facebook feed on Thursday and you can expect to hear interviews from John Dugan, John Lucas, and Roland Mann in the next week on our site.

micronauts1Next up is our discussion of Micronauts #1 from IDW. The Micronauts of our youth cast a big shadow, despite their small size, over every project since, but we hope that writer Cullen Bunn and the roster of artists and colorists can find their way to take us on a new incredible journey here in 2016.

Finally, the news everyone has been waited with baited breath – our panel schedule for the 2016 Planet Comicon. As a reminder, we will be working the Hero Initiative table once again, trying to spread the good word about this awesome organization. But when we are not at the table, you can probably find one or more of us at the panels listed below.

Friday, May 20:

  • 4 PM – WORST. COMIC. PODCAST. EVER! PANEL
  • 6 PM – JASON ON JASON SPOTLIGHT: JASON AARON AND JASON LATOUR

Saturday, May 21:

  • 4 PM – WHEN CARTOONS AND COMICS MEET

Sunday, May 22:

  • 11 AM – PONIES & GODZILLA: LICENSED COMIC BOOKS ARE AWESOME!
  • NOON – HARLEY QUINN AND EL DIABLO: FROM PAGE TO SCREEN
  • 2 PM – SECRETS OF COMIC BOOK WRITING

Check out the Planet Comicon website for an up-to-date listing of all guests, panels, and events going on in just two weeks!!

We wrap things up by taking a look at the recent discussion regarding #whitewashing, with a look at the casting of Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One in the upcoming Doctor Strange movie. Seriously, if George Takei is offering a rebuttal to your position, you probably are in the wrong to begin with. We’re looking at you, Marvel!

Finally, look for the guys this weekend at a Free Comic Book Day event near you. John and Jerry will be at Clint’s Comics in Kansas City while Cullen will be visiting Things From Another World (TFAW, take a drink) in Beaverton. Stop by and talk us up – we really love to hear from all of you!

As always, we are the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, and we hope you enjoy the show.
