Four Comics I Want for NCBD: 2016/03/02

output_iza2sKThe comics this week run the full gamut from funny books for the little kids and books for the big kids. It is always nice to find a little something for everyone when you go into the shop. Okay, fine. It is all for me!!! What can I say – I love them all!

Seduction of the Innocent #4 (of 4) ($3.99, Dynamite Entertainment): We’re big fans of our friend and the writer of this volume Ande Parks. Ande is across the pond right now enjoying a semester abroad but that isn’t stopping him from creating some fantastic comics. This is the final issue of this four issue series and it is crime noir at its best … with Nazis, and a madman, and children in peril, and an entire city at risk. The stakes are high for young FBI Agent Thomas Jennings and the solicitation promises a punch in the gut that you won’t forget. The interior art is from Esteve Polls, who teamed up with Ande on The Lone Ranger, and the gorgeous covers on this series have been from Francesco Francavilla.

Vampirella #1 ($3.99, Dynamite Entertainment): I’ll admit that I’ve never really read much Vampirella in the past. Part of the reason for this is that the character’s traditional costume looks like something someone allergic to fabric might wear. In fact, if your goal was to make a one piece costume that covered a woman’s ‘naughty bits’ with the least possible amount of material, you would probably end up with something pretty close to this costume.

The character is now wearing some new togs though and the new outfit is something where I won’t get in trouble if my wife sees the cover. The cover date of Vampi’s first appearance was the same month that I was born and her initial appearances were primarily as a ‘hostess’ for horror stories rather than as a character (sorta like Elvira was for horror movies).

This new volume starts with an attack on this female vampire’s mansion in Hollywood. Will Vampirella sit back and wait to defend her home against the next attack. Hell No! She is going on the offensive! Writer Kate Leth and artist Eman Casallos take us into a new era for the Fanged Femme Fatale! There are lots of variant covers for this one but I love the one above by Chrissie Zullo!

Black Widow #1 ($3.99, Marvel Comics): Black Widow has been kicking butt and taking names since 1964 and the character shows no signs of letting up now. Fresh off their Eisner Award winning run on Daredevil, Mark Waid and Chris Samnee plan on putting the super spy through her paces. For this book, the two will share writing credits with Samnee doing the artwork. Within the first few pages of this one, B.W. is already wanted by and on the run from her bosses at S.H.I.E.L.D. Why? I don’t know! Given that the Widow’s secrets have secrets, there are a million possible reasons and she will need her years of experience in the game to keep away from S.H.I.E.L.D. and also figure out who is really behind this latest conflict.

I fully expect this one to be amazing and the Tula Lotay cover above is the best in my opinion of several incredible variants.

Scooby Doo Team Up #15 ($2.99, DC Comics) Scooby and Shaggy have a lot in common with the Flash. They are fun guys to be around, they eat a lot, and they run really fast. While they tend to run away from trouble though, the Flash tends to run towards trouble. This issue finds the Scarlet Speedster and the Scooby gang heading to Africa (I’m guessing they didn’t take the Mystery Machine) to face the Ghost of Gorilla City! Will it turn out to be Grodd or an old white guy that discovered oil under the City?  Writer Sholly Fisch and artist Dario Brizuela bring us this adventure of The Flash and those meddling kids!

As always, WCPE is happy to be publishing #FCIW with the support of Elite Comics in Overland Park, KS. William and the Elite Crew run a friendly, clean, and safe comic shop which is welcoming to all and supportive of many local and national non-profits including The Hero Initiative. Stop in, pick up these four books, and let the gang at Elite Comics know that the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! sent you over.
