Its the first New Comic Book Day of the new year! I don’t know about you, but one of my new year resolutions is to read more comics. I’m thinking this won’t be very difficult since I’m  already super excited about a ton of series starting and continuing in 2016! These are the four I’m most looking forward to picking up this week. Which comic series are you excited about reading this year?

Bitch Planet #6 ($3.99, Image Comics): We finally get the next chapter in the Bitch Planet saga! If you can’t tell, I absolutely love this book and I can’t think of any reason why everyone shouldn’t be reading it – well, unless you’re easily offended. Apparently this new issue will sport a content advisory on the cover due to a sexual assault that occurs in the story. This comes as no surprise as the book already has a mature rating, and author Kelly Sue Deconnick definitely isn’t known for playing it safe. Either way, I’m very excited for this new issue because we finally get the backstory of Meiko Maki, the Bitches’ secret weapon and it will feature a special guest artist, Taki Soma. This is definitely one issue not to miss!

A-Force #1 ($3.99, Marvel Comics): A-Force was one of the most anticipated books of the Secret Wars event but it sadly didn’t meet the expectations of many readers. But now that Secret Wars is over, Marvel is finally giving us what we want: an all-new, all-female Avengers team set in the real Marvel Universe. A-Force picks up after the previous Avengers group disbanded at the end of Secret Wars. A new character that originated in Battleworld, Singularity, will bring together She-Hulk, Captain Marvel, Dazzler, Medusa, and Nico Minoru to face some major threats from across the multiverse. I have very high hopes for this new series, especially since it is in the very talented hands of G. Willow Wilson and Jorge Molina. And don’t forget to check-out the variants for this issue, there are some really amazing ones, including one by the cover master, Adam Hughes.

Swamp Thing #1 ($2.99, DC Comics): Swamp Thing returns to the DC Universe in an all new mini-series written by his co-creator Len Wein! I’m a huge fan of the old Vertigo horror titles, so I’m glad to see they are giving characters like Constantine and Swamp Thing their own titles, even if it is for a limited time. They will also be doing a short recap of Swamp Thing’s origins, so readers who are unfamiliar with Alec Holland’s alter-ego can also enjoy this series. According to the solicit, Swamp Thing receives a mysterious warning and once again finds himself under attack from the forces of dark magic. I highly recommend picking this book up, especially if you enjoy supernatural titles.

The Vision #3 ($3.99, Marvel Comics): I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed the first two issues of this new Vision series. The idea of the Vision assembling a family of three other synthezoids and moving to a suburb to live a normal life seems very odd at first, but Tom King and Gabriel Hernandez execute it perfectly. The Vision is unlike any other superhero story – it has little to do with fighting and really ends up being more about these robots trying to fit in and deal with their emotions, or lack therefore of. This series is insightful, fascinating, and even a little creepy. This is definitely one of Marvel’s best books right now and you’ll definitely be missing out if you don’t pick this one up!
